Hi Shaun,

I wouldn’t exactly describe having to have the dongle in place all the times as
a problem. The whole idea is NOT to put anything on the PC you are using, and
run the speech entirely from the dongle.

Besides, you can get quite low cost USB splitters these days.

George.

Ari,
while the dingle is in principle a more secure way of protecting software there
are two very distinct disadvantages.
1) unless there is an alternative verification system in place if you lose your
dongle( or it gets stolen) your basically snookered
2) some dongles have to remain in the usb slot during the complete session in
order to avoid interrupting the software, that leaves one usb port unusable if
you have limited ports ( if you need more then two ports for other devices
and don't have them, then in that instance the dongle is a no go solution)

Hello Everyone.

Over the last few days, a question has been at the back of my mind and i

was wondering if anyone could shed any light on possible solutions for

future reference. as some of you may be aware, i was talking to someone

recently who is thinking of selling software. while that particular

question has been resolved to his satisfaction and he's carrying on with

his project, it got me thinking. when companies like freedomscientific,

eset etc release software, they must protect it in some way. obviously

they have online activation systems as well with the ability for the

customer to go and request their registration code. so my question is

this. has anyone ever had any experience of the kind of solutions they

use to protect the software? i'm assuming they'd use encryption? and has

anyone ever used online companies to manage software registrations? i

know quite a few companies exist where you can offer serial number

generation and registration for your customers and was wondering what

people's experiences were from a VI point of view?

all the best,

Mo.
