I know which type of programs you mean, but no, programs don't look for the C drive, they look for the partition or drive that actively hosts the copy of windows that the program is being run from. So, if I had 2 copies of windows, 1 on drive b and 1 on drive c, I could run a program from drive b and it would install to drive b, and the same thing with drive c.

Hi Chris,

Actually, this is going to be a real problem, because some older programs
look specifically for the C: drive. I think the only answer is to reformat,
and pay more attention to the drive lettering <Smile>.

All the best

Steve

Hi, I guess that so long as the c drive isn't set as the active primary
partition, you shouldn't have any problems. By "active primary" I mean that
when you turn on your computer, it tries to boot from the first available
partition, and of course if there's nothing on there, or nothing to indicate
that an operating system exists, then it'll just stop dead and probably
display an error message. Only sighted assistance could get you out of this
trouble. Hope that helps.

Hi list,
I recently re-installed my OS and for some strange unknown reason the
letters of my systems and my backup drives were interchanged.
Therefore windows is now installed on D and my backup drive became my
C drive. I would like to know whether or not this is a major problem
and, if this is, is there a way to change my system's drive back to C
without having to re-install windows all over again? I must say that
so far, everything is working perfectly but some people tell me that I
could have problems and others say I should not worry about it.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time and
effort.
You all take care,
Lyn & Twinny.
