Hello Terry,
The thermostat on the Cobolt Timestat only knows about room
temperature, so it can be used to control the central heating
according to the temperature of the room where the timestat is. If
you want to control the temperature of the water in the boiler, so
that you get hotter water out of the taps, for instance, then the
thermostat on the Timestat cannot help.

Also, does it have to be fitted down stairs, as our boiler was
installed up stairs.
If it has to be fitted up stairs, then it would be more inconvenient
if you want to adjust the temperature I guess, but I suppose its
balancing that against being able to use the timer myself.
The cobalt site doesn't go into great detail about the product.
