Hi Andy, sorry but my husband says the volume is greyed out, does it make a
difference or will I still be able to do the same, sorry for being a bit
dim!

Mandy - Under Vista, go to control panel, type Volume in the search box, 
then tab past some quick launch links that are always at the top, then you 
should reach links for volume, including one to place or hide Speaker icon 
on the task bar; there is also a link for the actual volume -
