I'm still with version 9--I'm not a fan of the shark for the reasons you give, and the many reasons others have talked about, I just don't fancy starting again with another screen reader, and I guess that's how JFW keeps going, too many of us have been with it for too long! It just seemed the best choice at the outset 10 years ago! -

Hi Andy,
I find this new Jaws update, 11.146 something much more unstable before the 
darned update, Jaws is doing all sorts of strange things.  I often get the
message, Jaws not responding and when I reply to some e-mails I get a links 
list dialogue come up and I escape out of that only to find I'm on that
darned no window is active.  I wish they wouldn't fix things that aren't
broke !

Hi Mandy, just please for you it's sorted. I had an issue with Internet
Explorer always closing on me, and couldn't figure out the problem, and a
good old JFW repair did the trick. I sometimes forget how much a culprit the 

shark can be! -

Andy, thank you so much for all your help.  My husband looked at that but
then Jaws has been playing up too, so we did a Jaws repair and voila, the
volume control came back, don't know how, don't know why but now I'm
happy,
so thank you for all your suggestions and help, it's much appreciated.

I'm not sure how or why it is grade out, but try following my suggestion
via

the Control Panel route, and see if you can click the link that will put
an
icon in the system tray. If it's showing grade out from within the Control 
Panel, and clicking it doesn't change anything, then I'm at a loss too -

then tab past some quick launch links that are always at the top, then

should reach links for volume, including one to place or hide Speaker
icon

No, it won't.
If you are on xp do the following:
1. Go to control panel/sounds and audio devices and press enter.
2. You should be on the volume tab. Tab to "Place volume icon in the
taskbar", check it and press enter.
