Lots of amateurs have successfully used LOX and it originally had a lot of
'unk-unks' a hundred years ago. NASA and the military did a lot of
extensive (and expensive) testing to eliminate any "unknown voodoo" and LOX
accidents are quite rare now. With nitrous, only limited testing has been
done, at least with data publicly available (I would think Puritan Bennett
and others who make it have a pretty good handle on how to work with the
stuff). Unfortunately, there isn't a well-tested and consistent set of
rules and material compatibility information. I was just asking for the
original source for that one piece of data (1/4" critical diameter for
liquid nitrous) to better understand the real risks. That would still be
helpful if anyone knows the actual source.
