I’d question the pureness of your KNO3. I’ve done lots of 70:30 candy mixes
and I’ve also done lots of caramelised candy motors back in the day.
Caramelised propellants should actually burn a touch better for burn tests.
Sometimes nitrate oxidizers can be full of crap like clays and anti-caking
agents, but what you’re experiencing sounds even more extreme than typical
contamination.
