We found out remnant acidity in KNO3 can cause candy propellant trouble.

Troy, that's a good point because nitrates sold as stump removers,etc do have additives to prevent use as an oxidizer.


And as aforementioned powdered sugar has cornstarch in it to prevent caking. So you may have both contaminated F&OX.

  I’d question the pureness of your KNO3. I’ve done lots of 70:30 candy mixes and I’ve also done lots of caramelised candy motors back in the day. Caramelised propellants should actually burn a touch better for burn tests. Sometimes nitrate oxidizers can be full of crap like clays and anti-caking agents, but what you’re experiencing sounds even more extreme than typical contamination.

Guys , I am still having problem with potassium nitrate it is not firing .It has light reaction with extensive heat like a 10 match sticks.
