officials raided numerous Mississippi food processing plants Wednesday,
arresting 680 mostly Latino workers in what marked the largest workplace sting
in at least a decade. The raids, planned months ago, happened just hours before
President Donald Trump was scheduled to visit El Paso, Texas, the
majority-Latino city where a man linked to an online screed about a "Hispanic
invasion" was charged in a shooting that left 22 people dead in the border
city.

Judge Denies Chelsea Manning A Hearing, Insists Hundreds Of Thousands Of
Dollars In Fines Are Not Punishment

to reconsider fines imposed against her for refusing to testify before the
grand jury investigating WikiLeaks. He also undermined due process and refused
to hold a hearing. “Manning has the ability to comply with the court’s
financial sanctions or will have the ability after her release from
confinement,” Judge Anthony Trenga ruled. “Therefore, the imposed fines of $500
per day after 30 days and $1,000 per day after 60 days is not so excessive as
to relieve her of those sanctions or to constitute punishment rather than a
coercive measure.”

On The Enduring Significance Of Hiroshima
By Canadian Peace Congress. On August 6 and 9, 1945, the U.S. military bombed
the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with nuclear weapons. Over 200,000 people,
mostly civilians, died instantly or later succumbed to burns, malnutrition, and
radiation-related illnesses. Many of their descendants carry the affected genes
and pass them onto their children. Those acts will forever be remembered in
infamy as the first time the devastating impact of nuclear warfare was
unleashed. There was absolutely no justification for this wanton attack – the
worst crime against humanity in history (paralleled only by the Holocaust).
Unclassified documents have confirmed there was no truth to the constructed
‘myth’ that the atomic attack was necessary to spare the lives of U.S.
servicemen and end the war.

'Fuera JOH': Honduras Protests, Police Respond With Violence

now calling for the president, Juan Orlando Hernandez, to resign. Here is a
compilation of reports provided by The Honduras Solidarity Network we received
last night. Honduras lived through another day of protest and the participants
suffered more repression by the JOH regime. The international press started to
cover this new wave of protests. The Honduras Solidarity Network denounces
three injured students at least one by bullets, in Tegucigalpa. In San Pedro
Sula, the police threw tear gas into buses transporting university students.

Koch-Funded Group Helped Develop Plan To Kill Future Of Phoenix Light Rail

light rail in Phoenix was hatched in a window-tinting shop on South Central
Avenue. At first, the plot was narrow. Celia Contreras, owner of Tony’s Window
Tinting, sought only to halt or alter Valley Metro Rail’s plan to build a
six-mile track connecting south Phoenix to its 26-mile rail system. Opponents
of the rail extension held meetings in Contreras' shop — a nondescript garage
bounded by a Mexican restaurant and a dollar store — where they worked on
raising awareness for their cause.

took control of the university’s museum in Guatemala City’s historic center.
Their goal was to block the country’s congress from holding sessions there, as

university are part of our heritage. Here great thinkers were formed,” said
Lenina García, the general secretary of the Association of University Students
