Well, one thing that is still depressing. I don't see any signs of the
Democrats coming to their senses and taking a fresh new approach with some
fresh new candidates.
I guess I resigned myself before the election to the idea that things would
get a lot worse before they get better and some of that would still have
happened under Clinton.
Here's a question I've been pondering over. Given that a majority of
Americans supported Obama's climate change policy, how much push-back will
happen as a result of things like that agriculture scientist being forced to
count beans because he blew the whistle?
Funny thing about whistle blowers. We know that treatment of whistle blowers
was particularly bad under Obama yet there was not much push-back from the
left. Now that Beauregard has made cracking down on whistle blowers a top
priority, I suspect the left will be rightfully screaming at the top of its
lungs. What is needed in this country is consistency. If it's wrong for
Trump and his administration to crack down on whistle blowers, it is just as
wrong when done by the Obama or any other administration.
Little doubt that we live in a decaying society. Gadz! Time for a drink.
Good thing pot is legal here cause that's a nice escape from the farce that
is American democracy.

Problem is, Progressives are fragmented and it seems to me like they have
no power at all. That doesn't mean that I'm not glad that some people are
trying to fight back. But things were already so bad before the election,
and I fear that things are already way worse than people realize and far
beyond our control.

Hi Miriam,
I felt exhausted and disheartened on election night and for a couple of
months after. But when I noticed all of the protests on the streets and at
town hall meetings and that it continues today, I am no-longer disheartened.
No, I'm hnot hopeful that things will get better any time soon, but I am
hopeful that progressives will continue to fight the good fight for all we
are worth.

Today, I've listened to the Intercepted podcast and to Democracy Now. Among
other things, I learned from Alan Niern that we are experiencing a rightist
revolution. He listed the many things that the current administration and
the radical Republicans have done since January, many of which cannot be
reversed. I heard, several times, Trumps threat to North Korea of a US
pre-emptive Nuclear war. I was reminded that the Blackwater employees who
murdered all those Iraqi citizens, had their sentences reversed, and how
Eric Prince is suggesting that his new mercenaries take over the running of
Afghanistan so that the US can take control of all those minerals that have
been discovered there. I learned about an effective organization, backed by
the Koch Brothers, and other powerful business interests in the US, that has
been organizing right wing think tanks and political organizations
throughout Latin America in order to organize the population to support
fright wing causes. They succeeded in unseating the leftist president of
Brazil and installing her corrupt, right wing successor. I listened while
powerful Democratic politicians assured their donors, donors like medical
insurance companies, that we will never have a single payer health system in
the US. That reminds me, last night I read that Joshua Holand, a supposedly
left wing writer, has an article in The Nation, saying the same thing, and
explaining why single payer is no good. Did you know that the State
Department is pretty much dismantled? Did you hear about the scientist at
the EPA who was switched from his position to one in which his
responsibility is to keep track of money received from gas and oil
companies?
I'm absolutely exhausted and disheartened, as I knew I would be when I
listened to Alan Niern predict what would happen on Democracy Now on the
night of the election.
