I feel sorry for your mother-in-law, Carl. My mom's mother and stepdad's mother
were both like that, and the emotional vampirism could cause a terrible toll.
Why was it that when my parents decided it was time to return to Arkansas to try
to help those two bitter biddies I remained out here? Well, first of all it was
that I've not been able to tolerate the climate there since I was in junior
high, and secondly it was to avoid being brought down to their level by constant
exposure. As it was, they helped split the family and set a bitter divorce into
motion.
