I have a sense of it, after four years of Donald Trump's trashing our
democracy as socialism/Marxism, and winking as confused angry people
stormed the White House.
And at the same time, we appear to need to set up straw men on which
to vent our rage. It wasn't so long ago that some folks began
calling French Frries, Freedom Fries. There are dozens of examples,
but one that has stuck with me for 80 years is the way
American women went through their knic knacs breaking all those items
made in Japan. Since even as a small boy I could see the silliness in
this, taking something that you already paid for, and breaking it up

US can't stand that another country might threaten its financial supremacy

adopted from China, starting in the early nineties. There was a big adoptive
parents' group which encouraged people to teach their children all about
Chinese culture. They had regular gatherings to celebrate holidays like the
Chinese New Year. I remember people traveling to Chinese neighborhoods in
New York City to buy authentic ingredients to cook Chinese meals. How are
those adopted Chinese children feeling right now? Many of them were taken
to China to visit the country of their birth. What is it like to suddenly
