Dyslexic, huh? That would explain the mechanical oddities, but I have
worked with many dyslexics and the condition does not account for the
behavior issues exhibited by Donald Trump. I have known people who
covered their inability to read because they have been teased or
ridiculed to the point of having to deny it, but few of them display
the contempt that Donald Trump uses to cover his failings.
My first full time job after graduating from dear old Ballard High,
was for a man who read out loud, word by painful word. He read the
comics and headlines. He was a shrewd businessman, but his grasp on
world events and his understanding of our history came from headlines,
the Lone Ranger and Dick Tracy.
When I taught Food Service Management to blind students in the BEP,
one fellow, a partially sighted man, was told by his eye doctor that
he had 20/200 vision. This meant he was legally blind and eligible to
work in the program. After operating a vending facility for several
years, he applied to the agency for additional services. He was
required to have a physical and an eye examination. This doctor found
that the fellow had something closer to 20/80 vision, and it was
correctable to about 20/40. He had become so clever at hiding his
dyslexia that he had fooled the first exam. He could see well enough
that he identified items by their shape and color. Ask him for a pack
of Pall Mall cigarettes and he reached for the red pack. Sad to say,
his "improved vision" forced him to quit the BEP, since the vendors
had to be at least legally blind.
Since I'm into the story this far, the ending was not so bad. The
fello's VRC enrolled him in a remedial reading course. He not only
learned to read...well enough to make sense out of print, but he
developed Macular Degeneration and reentered the BEP, running his own
snack bar for many years.
But speaking of training and placement of blind people, I can't think
of a single job I would feel comfortable referring Donald Trump for,
if he were blind...well, maybe a job with Money Tree or selling used
cars for Honest John.

explain his erratic spelling and disdain for education. His classmates at
Wharton saw little of him on weekends, when he retreated to NYC to work in

family real estate business, and state that when he did come to study groups
he
was consistently ill prepared. Whenever he's asked what he's reading, he's
said
for years it is "All Quiet on the Western Front." In videos of the
depositions
made back when he was sued by the government for refusal to follow fair
housing
guidelines, you can tell he's not reading the contract his interrogator is
asking him to review. He claims that the lettering is too small, but
refuses to
have them blown up so he can "read them without his glasses," which he
supposedly failed to bring with him. He admits that he's never read a
single
contract he's ever signed, but boasts he's signed thousands of them.
By the way, no one I've ever talked to has ever indicated he has any
glasses,
reading or otherwise.
He can decipher short communications, which is why he loved Twitter so much.
But he has insisted he not be bothered by being given written briefs,
particularly if they're likely to be long. He claims they're too long to
bother
with when in reality he'd never be able to get through them easily. He's
good
at hiding his illiteracy, but believe me, it's there.
