Dear all,
I'll talk to Chrissie but here are some things we learned:
There is a stream that sometimes flows down the hill under the even numbered
houses on Everton Rd.
We think there's another that sometimes flows down to us from Endcliffe Vale
Road.
It's difficult to know what is 'water table' and what is a stream that comes
and goes. We had NO damp at all for 4 years and then a bad period of two years.
We eventually had full tanking and it's beautiful in the cellar now. We've
heard the pumps go off maybe twice in the last 9 months but last year they were
sometimes going off every hour. It's variable.
The main learning for us was that partial solutions don't work. We wasted money
on membranes and pea gravel drains etc. wanting to avoid full tanking. But
water gets everywhere. Full tanking is the only option. The upside is a
beautiful dry storage room - or even a habitable room if you have an escape
window.
Whoever you get to do it, check out their track record, see some work, ensure
you have solid guarantees.
Cheers,
Nick

Subject: [eccotalk] Is your cellar getting wetter?
Dear ECCO members
In the last month or so my cellar floor has become wet (40 Everton) after 30
years of being just very slightly damp. I have had a number of inspections,
including Yorkshire Water to check for leaks, and they are all saying it is
because the water table is rising due to the increase in rainfall over the last
few years. I can either put up with a wet cellar or have it 'tanked' at
considerable cost.
Is anyone else having the same experience?
Also has anyone had their cellar tanked or waterproofed and if so by whom?
Any experiences, tips, warnings or reassurances would be very welcome.
Thanks
Chrissie Stansfield
