But before I address that, another issue that has not been touched, as far as I have seen, is this: not only is the lack of a project problematic regarding the oral exam, but it is also meant to be counted as 30% of the yearly grade for one of the modules. So, are those "doctored", too? This is becoming SO problematic.. Regarding your question, I would suggest one of two things: 1. Do the project right now, while there is still time (for the sake of your students, so that they do not get penalized for the Irgun's stand) 2. Ask Ran Erez what he suggests! Does HE come out and tell the teachers to "doctor" the yearly grade in the module where it is meant to be counted as 30%, as well as "overlooking" the fact that students have not done the work required for the oral exam? It is all well and good saying on the site that Irgun teachers are not allowed to do projects - but does he go so far as to suggest HOW to implement this without using our students as the pawns in this struggle? I really DO want to know - this is NOT a rhetorical question! As I have said before, in NUMEROUS postings: we DO deserve more compensation for the multitude of tasks that we do as English teachers - above and beyond what other teachers do, and if Ran Erez can get it for us, more power to him. However, after witnessing the fiasco of the big teachers' strike 2 years ago, when there was SO much support from teachers from BOTH unions, I simply do not believe in the man any more. He is throwing a stink bomb into the crowd and then running away! And now _I_ have a question: Are Histadrut teachers, who did their projects with their students, and go to test a student whose teachers are from the Irgun, expected to "doctor" the oral exam, when THEY, themselves, and their students, did the project work and earned their grades honestly, according to the guidelines? I believe that this is how we started this discussion in the first place. Looking at things from the perspective of the "other " side, this whole thing has been so mishandled, that unraveling the mess has become much more than challenging. Because we are both Irgun AND Histadrut , this is a real problem. (The fact that there are two unions in such a small country is so absurd. ) Well.. that's MY take on it, anyway. Adele BTW: just to set the record straight, in 2003 the Irgun agreed to the projects IN WRITING. Last year they started the sanctions without any negotiations...
