----- Original Message ----- From: Esther Revivo - estherrv@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: "liar" I think that every Irgun member is between a rock and a hard place. When you belong to a union, you are duty bound to follow their instructions, otherwise you forfeit the right to get their assistance when you need your rights defended. I have no right to turn to the Irgun (to whom I moved my allegiance after the Histadrut folded in to the MOE over Ofek Chadash.) As I stated many times, as many of my pupils are from Sederot, I will do NOTHING to make their lives harder, even if that makes me a scab. I am not proud of this, but putting both things on a scale, decided that not hurting my post-stress syndrome pupils more important in the long run. Nina has the guts to openly discuss a real problem here. I am not a tester, thankfully, so I don't have the problems she does, nor do I teach 12 graders anymore since I went on early pension. (I teach 9th and 10th grade classes.) I don't feel at all comfortable with her being called a "Liar" on this forum. She openly shared her plans and explained why she plans to do what she said. The Oral exam is meant to test oral skills. Pupils should NOT be penalized when their teachers listen to THEIR union's directives. Yes, projects should be done ideally, but if they are not, I don't feel the pupils should fail their oral exam. (If I lived in central Israel I would be following sanctions as well. I'd probably tell my pupils to somehow get a hold of a project somehow and know what it is talking about. Would I too be a liar?????? The MOE should not force teachers to behave in dishonest ways, but that is exactly what they are doing!!!!!! The MOE is dishonest when it pays civics teachers for doing what we do for free--- projects WHICH I ADORE DOING! In our school for 18 years we've been doing "portfolio" projects from 7th grade on and like Adele, I find this one of the most truly educational things I do with my pupils; they LOVE researching a topic with relevance to them and I love doing them as well. But the fact is that I spend HOURS online with them; checking their work before final printing all for free. Civics teachers get paid. That is dishonest. Nobody takes them to task for that. I would suggest in future that we refrain from name calling (i.e. LIAR) on ETNI. It is shameful. Should one wish to "curse" someone until blue in the face, let them do it one on one on a private e-mail. Nina at least is being open and above-board unlike many "silent" teachers here who do who knows what secretively without the guts to be open about it. We don't live in an ideal world, and going against your union is unethical. The MOE should not demand teachers to do so. I am a scab, and not proud of it, but that doesn't mean everyone should ignore the Irgun. (Gosh, I'm sick of living in this area!!!) And, I'm sick of us fighting among ourselves! Let's try to be civil folks!!!!!
