I can't share the disappointment of some teachers that pupils tend to do
less and less work, are less enthusiastic about projects, etc, in 11th and
12th grades. It seems to me a sign that they might be normal, healthy
adolescents who have a life of their own outside schoolwork and even if they
are conscientious about their studies, they want a social life, they're
concerned about their army prospects etc.
Would we really want 17-18 year-olds to prefer to do an English project than
go out on a date or "hang out" with their friends?
