The number of required HOTS was reduced to six. If you are doing the exam, there are six specific HOTS that you must teach. If you're doing the log, you can choose any six HOTS. That said, it's beneficial to your students if you teach them more than six. They can use any HOTS on the exam (not only the six in the appendix) and they may need to understand a particular HOTS to answer some of the alternate questions (for example, in the May exam, students were asked to evaluate Ann's character in light of her behavior in Act III -- evaluating is not one of the required HOTS). Note that students will never be required to answer a justification question with any of the HOTS apart from the six required ones. Note also that this is my unofficial answer.
