Another couple things that are worthwhile doing so all your hard work
preparing the discs is not in vain-Write a letter/call the parents and
explain that situation. If the student/parent sees no need for the
disc, get it documented. If you have a communication system with the
families on the Internet (My school has the mashov system) -write to
the child and the parents before any scheduled test/quiz for which you
are making a disc. I do this even with 12th grade students!
Of course this should not be the job of the English teachers-(I once
had a recording studio in my home for the tapes) -but at least we can
get reimbursed a bit and burning discs is much easier than making
tapes. I still have nightmares about all those tape cassettes piled up
in my house.
