Here is an interesting article from the Washington Post regarding how teachers are drowning under reams of paperwork they are required to fill out: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/paperwork-burden-plagues-teachers/2011/11/11/gIQALB3aFN_story.html Regarding the work of burning CD's for students -- its a royal nuisance. I have spent hours reading texts into the computer and copying them onto the CDs. Many students dont know where to get the players (Office Depot I believe has them). The school wont supply the CD's. I ask the kids to bring me in 5 -- put their names on them. When they are through - I ask if they would donate them to the school so other kids have them. Ususally they say yes. That helps for future years. However, many forget to bring in their CDs - and so I have 'donated' quite a few. To get money for your time - you have to fill out papers - and hope for the best. Regarding the Courage to Change -- (I am wondering if it should be "The Courage Not to be Forced into this Change") -- our school is in the pilot. Every hour has to be accounted for -- teaching, private lessons, or class preparation. Problem is: during the 'free' time when you want to prepare - it is often filled with meetings that end up with more forms to complete. There are no quiet places to work or to leave your materials (a tiny cubby hole just doesnt do it).A clock has been added (but not yet working). Teachers are stressed out, angry, and exhausted. The worst is that while your overall monthly salary may increase -- the amount you are actually receiving per hour has decreased by about 30%! What the........? Something is rotten, somewhere. Louise
