I second what Mitzi has said regarding recent comments about the literature exam: 1) There is no basis to the claim that "most of the grades were low." How does the writer know this? Does she have statistics that nobody else has? As a marker of this exam I can attest to the fact that there were many high grades in the 90s and even 100s. We will all be smarter when the final statistics are published but until then I suggest not jumping to any hasty, unfounded conclusions. 2) The grading rubrics, with only minor changes, have been in place since the first exam (the pilot exam) was given in January 2009. It is sheer nonsense to claim otherwise. 3) There is no "conspiracy" to get teachers to do the log for financial or any other reasons. As Mitzi has noted, the payment for the log works out to just about the same as the payment for the exam. Teachers may come to the conclusion that their pupils will get a higher grade if they do the log, but that doesn't mean that anyone is trying to finagle teachers into opting for the log rather than the exam. Let's try to keep our comments and criticisms based on fact rather than rumor and hearsay. Whatever happened to the notion that "if most of the grades are low then the problem is with the exam." I've heard tell (no, not a rumor!!) that the teachers are being blamed because we're not teaching accordint to the rubics the markers are using. What the __________ does that mean? AS far as I remember there weren't any rubics even written (Winter Exam) until after the "tidruk" which took place following the exam. Why does the expression " being railroaded" (toward the log) come to mind?? Is this what English has become? ..My students used to love the literature our staff taught anad the creative atmosphere in which it was taught. Now it's become a chore based on mostly uninspiring pieces. (And frankly, dear, I don't think a whole staff became "uninspiring" in the space of a year! ) jesg ************************************** ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org ** post to list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** David Lloyd: ETNI founder & manager http://david.greenlloyd.com *************************************** ************************************** ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org ** post to list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** David Lloyd: ETNI founder & manager http://david.greenlloyd.com ***************************************
