Dear Adele, May I (calmly) suggest that the writer of the message you responded to (below) is most likely expressing frustration rather than anger -- and it's a feeling that many, many excellent and experienced teachers share (regardless of their views about the new literature program). We don't think it's too much to ask to have the kinks in a program ironed out before we're expected to implement it. After all, we're the ones who interface with our students, so they (rightfully) regard us as being responsible for providing reliable answers to their questions about the literature Bagrut. Students may enjoy our literature lessons, but that's not enough for them; they want to make sure they know how to succeed on the exam. Unfortunately, I don't have a practical solution to propose for the problem of how to remove all the rough spots in the program, but I certainly feel it's essential to do so -- for everyone's sake! I'm sure many teachers appreciate all the hard work you and other program coordinators have invested in the program, but there's still a gap between its ideals and its smooth operation. That's what I believe Judy was expressing, and of course Francine's comment about being patient is on the mark; however, let's not forget that this year's students who are taking the exam need and deserve the best guidance we can give them. Since we are not the designers of the program, we have no choice but to turn to those who are! May we all have a sweet new year, personally and professionally.
