I totally object to the word "pressuring". I teach very weak 10th graders who fear and hate English. They have failed all their lives (and other subjects too, it's nothing personal). By getting them to take the A module, I am giving them a chance to pass something, and nothing breeds success like success. I do not just teach "test taking", we work hard on vocabulary, basic (!) grammar and speech. But they have an achievable goal to aim for, is that so terrible? Judy To add my 2 cents, it's not only pressuring pupils to take the exam at 10th grade. Don't forget the Meitzav in 8th grade. Teachers are pressured to get the kids ready for the Meitzav during 7th and most of 8th grade by practicing and re-practicing old exams. So when are kids studying the English language and not test taking?!
