[gps-talkusers] Re: Amazing Results and a Rather Startling Discovery About Intersection Announcements

Hello Ilkka,

For the record, when I switched my map settings to O S M, I received no
intersection announcements, anywhere. I even tried restarting the app after
a phone reboot to see if that would make a difference but, for the mile or
so I traveled, in a car, during the time when O S M was selected, no
intersections were spoken.

When I switched back to NavTech, non-route cross-street announcements
resumed, with the exception of my beloved Beach Boulevard, of course.

Mark

I know more about OSM database. It seems, that in OSM long streets are
usually cut to shorter parts. My hypothesis suggest that maybe some roads
are not chopped this way and that would cause this problem... If it works
when route is planned and logging is possible only then, maybe Sendero /
Seeing eye developers needs to take a look what their mapping API returns
when querying street info of that area.

Hello Ilkka,

That’s an interesting hypothesis except that the app appears to work
perfectly on Pacific Coast Highway also known as California Highway 1.  PCH,
which is what the locals call it, runs from the Mexican border in San Diego
all the way up to Santa Barbara, a distance of about 250 miles.  Again, the
entire street has thousands of cross streets with traffic lights.  It could
be argued that California RT 1 or PCH goes all the way up to San Francisco a
distance of about 450 miles.  Every test I've run on PCH has gone smoothly.

No, there's something about Beach Boulevard that sets it apart.

Thanks for chiming in on this.

My guess what happens: Seeing Eye get's pieces of map around you. Since
Beach Boulevard is so long, it's "center" is outside of area that is sent to
Seeing Eye and street vector is not included. That's why you don't hear
intersections.

Hello Chris,

This sounds like a good idea.

Beach Blvd is at least 30 miles long and goes through at least 7 cities.

I'm assuming you mean simply create a route from any point along the
boulevard and travel along it for, say a couple of blocks?  That is, simply
create a short route along Beach Boulevard?

I've never sent a route log, before, at least, not to my knowledge.

Can you please provide step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

I, of course, am referring to actually accessing and sending the log.  I
know how to create a route.

Thank you,

Mark

Hi,
Create a route and travel down beach blvd.
Then send the route logs.   This way the devs can tell what is going on
and hopefully fix it.
