Thanks, Terry. I did that anyway (seeing your message after my trip) and
had a really good time telling the driver all I saw without suggesting she
should follow any directions. I looked up specific information from time to
time whikch helped to reinforce those key strokes. Next time I shall set a
route with a friend before going, to agree which way we'll go and then from
there start to give some instruction. I'm also beginning to take route
walks and have managed to find a shorter way from a point in town to
another, which I didn't know, and though I got a bit lost in the doing of
it, I had great fun. The reason I was a bit lost was that I was trying to
locate a road which branched off on the opposite side to which I was
walking, but this roadway (I suspected) came up before another point where I
could cross, but people ccouldn't find a name shown to the road in question.
Anyway, it's all good fun and beginning to be helpful!

Carol this is exactly what I did to get familiar with using the GPS.
The best thing to do is to have the system set to automatically recalculate the route, with this option turned on after the route has been deviated from to a prescribed degree the software will simply go away and recalculate and tell you it's doing that.
To enable me to see the most amount of useful information I also turn waypoint numbering off when using the system in a car.
Hope all this helps, have an enjoyable trip there is something great about just sitting watching stuff go by which previously you may have been completely unaware of, it's a bit like looking out of the window I guess and has completely changed what I do when travelling by car!
