No, it calculates distance between you and your destination as the crow flies,
from Point A to Point B, even though you may need to walk or drive a longer
distance. If you create a route, it will show the total length of the route
more or less correctly.

  Subject: [gps-talkusers] distances help pease

  Hi

My Pk always comes up with wrong distances from point A to point B, for
example, when I create a vehicle route to Sheffield which is approximately 221
miles it tells me It is 187 miles, is it calculating as the crow flies or have
I somewhere got settings wrong? The example about is just one, but it is in
both pedestrian, vehicle and other so is at least constant! I find it
misleading as I walk a lot and will often look at distance before I decide on
modes of transport, but when calculating how much time I have before a meeting
I need a more accurate distance to know how long it would take me to walk a
route, hope that makes sense! I guess if there is no way to change the setting
I will just have to put up with it and take it as one of it's quirks!

  Thanks in advance
  Tony
