Hello Mike, Sendero uses the RichMap engine by deCarta which at the time over 10 years ago was the most compressed format in the industry, but times have changed and the original deCarta RichMap engine is no longer the most compressed format out there. Now if we were to use some other engine that would require probably 1 man year to port over to the new improved format which would be a highly compressed format but at what trade off? Who is to say all current functionality would be in this new format. Also in doing this we would have to charge users more since licensing a newer engine would undoubtedly cost more than our current contract and we would have to passthat cost to you. Not to mention all you would get is a more compressed mapfile format, you may loose functionality, it may cost more, and you wouldnot get any new features since all my time would be to convert over to a newformat. Then there is no guaranty it would run under all the OS's we currently run on (ie. they may not have a WinCE version so then all BrailleNote / HIMS Sense products would loose out. So this is why we haven't switch to another map database format. Hope this clears up this issue. Thanks. It ays that the size of the entire United States is around 13 GB in size, yet the TomTom and Navigon apps for the Iphone only take about 1.6 GB for the size, this includes the entire United States. In particular, the TomTom app uses the Teleatlas, or I guess it's now the TomTOm maps, unless the sendero maps include more detail, but thought I would ask. -- Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network.
