Here's another thought for developing on Iphone and Android. You might consider
expanding on what the look around app does and turning that in to a GPS system
similar to what way finder had. The maps could be on the server and the server
could calculate the roots. Rather than selling it as an app, perhaps make it a
subscription, I don't know whether this would be possible, just throwing around
some ideas. Granted, with this approach, it wouldn't work if you are out of a
coverage area, but that's pretty rare these days, so that would be a minor
issue at the most.
