Hello,

Sorry - there was a misunderstanding there, I was looking at the wrong Neg. I was looking at the bracketed Negs. This is a case of using the highlight pen.

Hi Patsy,

You are right – it is very important as it describes the individual negative/image so is vital when searching for the right photograph.

Christine’s case had too much wording to fit in the Assignment column so the photographer had carried it over into the Description but rightly it was all part of the Assignment which is what an enquirer would be using to find the correct “set” of negatives. Then they would use the Description to find the right one in the set for their needs.

All of Christine’s Assignment and Description information contained details which would be part of the initial search so if it wasn’t included under Assignment in the database it could easily have been missed.

Please continue to fill in the columns just as they are in the book unless you come across anything like Christine’s example. I’m only too happy to advise if you are unsure.

Thanks,
Chris

Hello Chris,

Surely the Details field for every Assignment is very important as often contains names of people or places which doesn't appear in the Assignment field. I have always filled it in - should I continue to do so or am I wasting my time if it can be left empty?

Hi Christine,
I think your approach is the better as it’s that field that is more likely to be searched on so needs to contain the important key words.
You could just leave the details field empty I think.

Hello Chris, every now and then I come across an entry like the attached (neg 2245). Am I right in entering everything in the Assignment box and putting BLANK in the description or should I transcribe it exactly as seen?
Regards, Christine
