I'm struggling to get something working here, maybe you folks have some
ideas...
My story of woes start with a new monitor, this crazy 43" LG 4K display.
Generally love the display, BUT, the backlight ends right at the end of the
screen. If you're 10 feet back, the edge of the panel and the edge of the
backlight roughly align. My desk ain't that big though... At my normal
distance, I "lose" around 7-8 pixels around the border of the screen.
So I thought I'd try setting "border pixel 8" on my terminal windows. I
lose some real estate in the middle of the screen, but at least I can see
the left row of characters in my leftmost terminal.
But now the title bars are gone... If I go back to "border normal", the
title bar comes back up.
Ideally what I'd like is to be able to set the left, right, and bottom 8
pixels to be a no mans land, and have the regular borders and titles
otherwise.
I thought maybe I could do something with xrandr, but "pos" seemed like the
most likely but that sets the offset within the virtual frame buffer, not
within the physical screen.
Any ideas?
