I have applied for Touctel [1] dedicated ADSL line - 128 kbps @ 500 MB
transfer limit per month. They are renting the router (costs Rs.
6000) for Rs. 200 per month (USB modem doesn't work in Linux). The
total tariff is Rs. 1000 + Rs. 200 per month. I asked for one of the
unlimited plans, but they refused to provide routers for such plans
them.
Since 500 MB is not enough to keep my debian box updated each month, I
have decided to go for offline dist-upgrades (my college). With the
left-overs I wonder if I ever require more than 500 MB assuming I
occationally do large downloads. (I am a dial-up user so far)
Also, though the traffic is metered in touctel site, I want one to be
in my own box. Anything you know about this ?

PS: I bought Intex Ethernet, and configured it to work in linux using
fealnx kernel module.
