That was not my point. Cost is one of the many factors. As pointed
out by Shiv, Simputer is an end product for the layman. And going
by its features, its _not_ cheap.
If what your need is a motherboard, will you go for a new computer?
I Think i need to write in a more detailed manner.
The requirement here is any development / reference board that runs embedded
linux.
There are lots of devices avalable in the market some arm based, some mips
based and some power pc based.
Mostly all these devices run an embedded os ( be it nucleus / vxworks / qnx /
embedded linux / Embedded Windows ).
So now the question comes which device / eval board i select so that i can run
embedded linux on it.
Also it should be available in chennai / india.
for this one can either purchase some device ( as you said a pda/ cisco router/
any thing ) and then wipe of the original stuff there and put linux into it by
cross compiling for that target).
The issues that may arise are you don't know about what boot loader it has,
whether it can be as straight forward as i have described. what about debugging
/ console port etc.
Instead what you can do is buy a device which is available in market which has
already good support / manauals/ details on boot loader etc. and that's why i
suggested a simputer.
But if you want to buy a cisco router and then want to put linux into it. I
wish you all the best : -)
