[Ilugc] Fedora GUI problem

X does start, and it shows the graphical login screen and I am able to

before I start gdm from the console?
If you suspect that these applications are simply not starting, you can
get them to start on the xserver by doing the following from a VT
afterwards (Ctrl+Alt+F1):
gnome-panel --display :0
gcalctool --display :0
I would suggest running an xserver without gnome (start everything
with .xinitrc) but this might be different for Fedora, so it's worth
looking for documentation for that and seeing if there is any that helps
on how to do that.
What happens if you do the following when the xserver is down?
startx /usr/bin/xterm --display :0
