distro-specific requirements (well, mostly). Distros like Gentoo will make
this task easier for you.
but even then there should be some metadata regarding the dependencies
.. right? then how is this easier.
what i am asking is this... can a gentoo user download a package from
any arbitrary source and expect portage to automagically compile it
for him, taking care of the dependencies.
or should he download it from some specific site that has put together
the gentoo meta-data.
