I already have KDE 3 which was installed with RedHat
8. Now I want to upgrade it to the latest KDE. I have to uninstall the
present kde or i have to proceed with the upgrade option?
Upgrading a package actually removes the presently installed version of
the package and then installs the new version - the effect is almost the
same.
It's generally simpler to upgrade, because you can avoid having to deal
with a whole bunch of other packages which have dependancies on the package
that is being upgraded (as long as there is no dependancy on the
specific version).
However, for something as complex as KDE, with all the version dependancies
on it, it may be approximately the same effort to uninstall and re-install.
Difficult call to make, especially for a bleeding edge package like KDE 3.3.
Try it out and tell us how it went :-).
Hint: set aside about a day or two for this task.
