Did you say 'No' to 'Modules Support'? AFAIK debian wasn't
friendly that way because without module support, anyway it
would run depmod. I went up and manually removed those lines
from the rc script.

I think it doesn't matter all that much. But speeding up
things a lot more is to tune up your startup services.
Things like "Do I really need a dictd starting up?". "Do I
really need xdm trying to see which is the dm and then giving
it up to gdm?"
