I wouldn't call it 'beautiful', but you can have 'user pics' in LJ. So
if you comment/blog, a stamp-size pic shows up on the left. And I can
set current 'moods'. And I use LogJam(which is pretty feature-rich) to
blog directly from my debian box.

Not only LJ, there are also other sites like deadjournal.com, .....
[google for rest] that uses livejournal.org.  I do not love LJ to the
full extent, it is written in Java :P
