Well, the maintainers of udev at Fedora actually crib that every
problem in FC3 seems to get associated with udev...yes, udev is the
way to go, and I suggest that you look at other possible aspects of
the problem as well, rather than just blaming udev...
it moves on...

I heared that static /dev will be removed from the kernel due to
the lack of a maintainer. Inspite of /udev being in infancy it
seems to be doing well.
