Dear All,
Already I mailed[1] to list, about the need of ILUGC volunteers to
setup a small computer center with Ubuntu Distro at UCH[2]. But due to
some problem in getting the computer for that center, that task was
suspended. Now with help of few donors, UCH arranged 12 computers and
they are planning to open this computer center on Tue 22nd Jan 2008.
Last week, I visited the UCH and installed Ubuntu 6.x in 2 computers,
just to check the hardware compatibility issues. No major issue. This
weekend, again I am going to UCH to help in installations.
Most of computers are low end system with CD Driver. So following
things are needed to speedup setup process:
1. 3 Set latest Ubuntu DVDs
2. 3 DVD Readers
3. 2 or 3 power extn boxes
I don't have any experience in setting the local repo using Ubuntu.
So there is a need for Ubuntu volunteer(s).
UCH is in kadappakkam. It is around 2Hrs travel from Chennai on ECR.
Lunch will be arranged at UCH.

About UCH[2]:
The Uluru Children's Home cares for a particularly vulnerable group of
girls. Since 2003, the Home has housed about 30, mainly rural girls
who have been orphaned or abandoned by destitute parents. e-Centre
facility will cater to the ongoing, long-term educational needs of the
children based at UCH and will be accessible to children and adults
from surrounding villages.
