If you wait for late Oct / early Nov, Tiger Airways (www.tigerairways.com)
is selling tickets for $45 to $50 one way (that is < 2k one way) -
especially if you book your tickets now. I guess Air India Express will
bring their fares down as well, when Tiger Airways starts operating flights
from Madras and Kochi to Singapore.
Taxes are fixed by the government and will remain approximately the same for
any airline - around Rs.6000. Anyway that should bring your fare down to
around 10K or so round trip instead of 14k.
Thinkpad R and T series are less than 2500 sing dollars, for basic models.
Including tax that'd come to around 2600 sing dollars, and you can get a VAT
refund so about $25 or so of that comes right back to you. Hmm.. 2600 sing
dollars is Rs.69K but thinkpads are worth the money, for sure.
Note: Lenovo (which bought the Thinkpad line from IBM) has their own line of
notebooks, for rather cheaper -
