i fully agree with Mr. Raja
i was having SETI on my system in the year of 1999- 2000 ,
because of the said reasons , i have discontinued after 6 months
it is true that, i lost my Hard Disk and got Heavy Electricity Bill

Here are some reasons *not* to run seti -
1. Seti's source code is not published. For all you know, you could
doing nuclear bomb simulation and not be searching for ET in your
PC.
2. A modern CPU consumes ~80W of electricity under full load. When
your CPU is idle, Linux puts your cpu to low power state (~4W)
If you keep your CPU usage constantly at 100% by running seti -
a. you get a big electricity bill,
b. you overheat your computer and will cause premature failure
of HDD, motherboard and CPU.
3. Seti is a potential security risk - seti has been hacked in the
past.
4. You buy a fast PC for you to use and enjoy. Not to donate to other
projects. Running seti is not free and you are footing someones
research bills.
5. Running seti on your office pc is a good way to lose your job.
