Seriously though... what happens if u mount /dev/hdb directly?
i.e. change fstab from
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
to
/dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom udf,........
