yes - I tried three distros - opensuse, fedora and mandriva (all of them
use the linux kernel as far as I know)
What is the distribution? what are you trying to
do with the phone? Trying to connect to the internet or trying to
access the
files in your phone?
trying to access files - when connecting a nokia, one gets some options
like camera, mass storage etc on the phone. Choosing mass storage does
the trick. Here there is no such menu on the phone (s5600)
Tell us about the scripts you tried.
I tried samsutools and comsams. Samsutools crashes and make does not
work in comsams
How is the phone
connected to the computer? Bluetooth or with the cable?

Why don't you try
distribution provided network manager or bluetooth applet?
I tried fedora's network manager, but it gave an unhandled exception and
crashed
