I have raised this question with
the local Ubuntu fanbois, but they blame Xorg for this mess.
i tried a while back with ubuntu feisty, the graphical installer asks for
language first (thamizh chosen) and then two more steps ahead, it asks for
keyboard layout and i chose Tamil Unicode, where we have India on LHS, and
all available indian language layouts on the RHS.
From the live CD itself, System --> Preferences --> Keyboard takes to
Keyboard preferences. In the Layout Tab it is possible to Add Tamil
Unicode.
So it is there.. Tamizh Unicode Layout, Tamizh (Remington?), TAB & TSCII are
available.
Need to check with Kubuntu Live. Now what is difficulty in adding Tamizh99
here ? and this brings the need for scim as far as phoenetic & tamizh99
layout. else the effort put in Scim is saved a lot. a lotttttt...
