I have been trying to connect two ubuntu 7.10 boxes
(multibooting xp and ubuntu) sharing one monitor
keyboard and mouse (without KVM switch) by installing
vncserver. I followed the following steps.
1. Installed vncserver in one box (host)
2. Choose system-preferences-remote desktop and
enabled allow other users to view desktop and allow
other users control desktop. (I did't enable: Ask you
for confirmation and Require the userto enter
password)
Default boot option in grub for the host system is
ubuntu 7.10.
3. Shutdown the host system disconnected the monitor
and keyboard and mouse.
4. Connected the keyboard,monitor and mouse to remote
pc.
5. Connected the host and remote pcs through twisted
ethernet cable.
6. Switched on both the systems. Boot into the remote
PC (ethernet light is glowing in both the systems)
7. From the remote system terminal I typed the
command: vncviewer rd-desktop:0 (rd-desktop is the
host name)
I am getting the following message:
Unable to connect to host: connection refused (111)
I expected to get the display of the remote desktop
screen asking for the username and then password.
Should someone clarify what is wrong in the setup?
Whether it is first possible to get the remote desktop
screen in the absence of monitor?
