I use Windows Explorer as a cheap, accessible, easy FTP client all the time. It is not the most efficient or reliable FTP client, but it is fine for limited use. I occasionally find that it hangs while uploading a file. It happens most often when updating a file. Therefore, I usually delete the old file first. Besides a familiar interface and simple cut and paste, I especially like that it is available all the time since it is mapped as a drive and I have it mounted at startup. I use Vista so I do not know if this is available in XP. To copy a file to my server all I have to do is press Control + c on a file I want to upload. I then press Windows + e to bring up a new Windows Explorer "Computer" window. I press the End key to go to the bottom of the list, where my network drive is listed. I can hit Enter to get a list of files and folders on my server. Simply pressing Control +v now will upload the file! To set this up, open Windows Explorer and select "Map network drive from the Tools menu. Tab around to see all of the options. I check the box to mount automatically at startup. Press Enter on the "Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures." link.Follow the directions. Most are straight forward. Make sure to uncheck the Anonymous login if you have a Username and password for the site. when it asks for a site address, typically this will be the web address without the username portion, such as: My website is http://mysite.verizon.net/marangs/ So for the ftp site address I use ftp://mysite.verizon.net/ and "marangs" is the Username.
