Certificate Course on Otter Ecology
2nd – 4th June 2017
Following the success of the last Certificate Course on Otter Ecology,
WILD OTTERS is announcing Volume.2 of Certificate Course on Otter
Ecology, in collaboration with IUCN/SSC Otter Specialist Group. It
designed especially for wildlife researchers, students and nature
enthusiasts.
Course content:
Overview of 13 species of otters in the world and their conservation status
Key differences between Aonyx genus and Lutra genus
Understand Smooth-coated and Asian Small-Clawed otter ecology
Hands on experience to identify Smooth-coated and Asian Small-Clawed
otter signs (grooming, latrine sights, tracks)
Insight into Smooth-coated and Asian Small-Clawed otter behavior and
adaptation capabilities
Understand habitat parameters essential for the survival of otters
Understand threats faced by otters in India
Learn to conduct field surveys and monitor otter activity
Field trips:
1.Explore the mangrove forests in search of Smooth-coated otters
2.Trek through forest stream in the Western Ghats in search of Asian
small-clawed otters
