Subject: HerpBuzz #4 | March 2023 | Indian Herpetology Newsletter

Dear YETI members,
HerpBuzz's March issue is here!

We had no idea of the depth and breadth of developments in Indian
herpetology until we started the HerpBuzz newsletter and began to uncover a
wealth of information. On average, *17 research papers* concerning south
Asian herpetofauna are published every month. Beyond research papers, many
individuals and NGOs are doing stellar *conservation awareness work* on the
ground, from *reducing human-wildlife conflict* and *assessing species
threats* to writing *field guides and booklets* to educate the masses. Many
among us are also exploring uncharted lands for the sheer joy of herping
('the hunt') and inspiring others.
This month's issue is a mixed bag, we learn how strenuous an exercise *making
humans and crocodiles coexist* is, and we rejoice over the *downlisting of
the Galaxy Frog* from an 'endangered' IUCN status to 'vulnerable'. We mourn
the departure of turtle conservationist *Satish Bhaskar*, and discuss
recent events concerning *women's safety in Indian herpetology*.

is benefitting you, and all about how we can make it better.
Thanks.
Happy herping!
