This is another example of an article that makes me want to scream. Why do
they have to obsess over whether or not a limited box like Apple TV can do
something or not, when there are oodles of unlimited boxes that can do this
and a whole lot more?

I was hoping for so much more from Bert in this thread, since it spent so much
time talking about his buddy Les...

This response was SO predictable, and demonstrates once again that Bert does
not have a clue about the real issues in play here.

The boxes used to access content from the Internet are not the issue, other
than the ways they deal with navigation, search and discovery. The issue is how
the content owners will allow their products to be sold over the Internet.

Bert seems to think they will just give the best stuff away...

"Companies like Apple, Google and Roku are *starting* to break them apart"?
Wow. Who knew we had them to thank for this? At the very least, why not a
mention that *all* of the restrictions they worry over are easily
circumvented?

Restrictions that "who" worries over Bert?

The box manufacturers?

The companies investing in the required server farms and edge servers?

The content owners?

How do you circumvent the ability of the content owners to dictate the terms by
which they will license their content?

Are you ready to authorize ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, Netflix, Amazon, Scripps Howard,
and others to hit your credit card each month to watch their content?

Or do you really believe that the free stuff they are dangling in front of you
now will still be available when they sell everything via the Internet?

Your friend Les is telling you otherwise. "Want to watch the new Star Trek?
Just subscribe to All Access."

"Want to see the shows we were giving away on CBS.com a month ago? There's a
link on CBS.com to the sign up page for All Access..."

Craig
