What you have described above is one of MANY reasons that ATSC broadcasting has been stillborn in the U.S. Consumers are not interested in going through these hassles, just to receive a dying television service. It is absurd to believe that U.S> television broadcasters can survive with the current business model and a retro transmission technology that does not work as well as the system that is being replaced (which did not work well either). We need to start over and build a digital transmission system that is appropriate for the next fifty years.
